OMO OLOORE- What Makes The Difference? (PART 1)

Politics is a game of interests.  Three major interests in politics are: interest of the party platform upon which the public office holder gets to office, interest of the people who gives the public office holder the mandate to serve and the politician’s personal interest. A politician stands out if he or she is able to combine the three interests by being a true representative of the party and the people, a responsive and responsible political office holder.

One politician who has the three interests as the core of his public service is member of the House of Representatives, representing Ibadan North East/South East federal constituency, Honourable Adedapo Lam Adesina. Lam Adesina is an All Progressives Congress (APC) party man to the core. This, he epitomizes in upholding party supremacy in the performance of legislative duties. He epitomized this attribute during the inauguration of standing committees in the House of Representatives where he remained firm while some of his other colleagues traded party loyalty with membership and Chairmanship of ‘juicy’ committees.

Omo Oloore’ commitment to the interest of the people of his constituency cannot be over emphasized. His ability to make people the rally point of his agenda is one of the qualities that differentiate him from other legislators, particularly those that have represented the constituency in the same capacity at the green chamber.

Hon. Adedapo Lam Adesina has proved that quality representation is possible even from a constituency consisting of two key local governments in Ibadan. In terms of quality representation and accessibility, Omo Oloore is arguably the best lawmaker to have represented Ibadan North East/South East federal constituency since 1999.

Apart from his constituency outreach programmes which will be analyzed in the subsequent reports, the young Lam Adesina epitomizes the fact that the youth can deliver good representation. This, Adesina, shows in his active participation in activities of the House of Representatives through the presentation of various bills and motions that have direct positive impact on the welfare and development of his constituents. Targeted at ensuring that his constituents benefit from dividends of democracy, Lam Adesina has participated in the presentation of about 30 bills, motions and petitions.

This year, Lam Adesina has presented two bills before the House of Representatives namely: the National Fire Administration (Establishment) Bill, 2018 and Trustee Investment Act (Amendment) Bill, 2018. The National Fire Administration (Establishment) Bill, 2018, presented on March 6th, aims to strengthen the operation of Fire Service, with a view to reducing or curbing various incidences of fire, particularly at markets. The Trustee Investment Act (Amendment) Bill, 2018 presented before the House on March 22 intends to radically improve the securities sub-sector of the economic in the country through the amendment of certain aspects of existing law that has been in operation for a very long time.

Furthermore, Lam Adesina in his determination to ensure that Nigerians have access to regular electricity supply, moved a motion on the need to curb excessive electricity charges levied consumers by Electricity Distribution Companies (DISCOs).

As a true son of the soil, seeking the progress and development of his state, Lam Adesina, has moved a motion for the rehabilitation of the moribund federal government structures in Oyo State, like the need to rehabilitate the Obafemi Awolowo Stadium, Oke-Ado; rehabilitation of the National Museum, Alesinloye, and urgent need to rehabilitate the Ibadan/Ife Expressway.

In his commitment to the welfare of his constituents, Omo Oloore, submitted a petition to the House of Representatives on Pension shortchange on behalf of a constituent who retired in 1987 after 34 years in service, but was yet to receive his entitlement.

Also, he has through a motion called on the federal government to compensate victims of Oja’Ba incident, where articulated vehicle killed several residents of Oyo state.

Honourable Lam Adesina has also offered legislative support to the strides of the Governor Abiola Ajimobi led administration by seconding a motion seeking for the commencement of operations at Ibadan dry port.

Lam Adesina is a true democrat who believes that the people should be the core of governance and that government should be targeted at improvement of the social wellbeing of the people.
